!First class blacksmith, lived just east of New Paltz.
Had eight children...Richard was the 5th.
At one time he lived in the origional homestead. After a while he was
bitten by the western idea. At first he went prospecting to Ohio, then
returned and in 18544 sold out and moved to Sangamon county, Illinois
where he quickly contracted a malignant fever, fell into the hands of
doctors and finally fled east to save his life. He then bought back the old
business and settled down. Thereafter the name of Ohioville is givento
the crossroads there.

Once owned the Freer Homestead. Obtained the house by Executor's deed
dated 6/7/1828 in B.D. 34/447 at a consideration of $1000 including a4
acre parcel. I believe this is Moses, the son of Elias Frear & Maria
VanKleeck, born 8/10/1802, and died 11/7/1893. married Jane DuBois.
He was a blacksmith, who later moved east of the village.

Starting from the original Freer (Frere) of record:
Hugo Frere known as the Patentee was born at Herly-en-Boulonois, Normandy,
France, date unknown. Died New Paltz 1698. Married Marie de la Haye of
Douai, France 10-2-1660. They had three children: Marie 9-3-1661; Sara
1-22-1664; Hugo (later known as Hugo Sr.) 7-1-1666. Marie and both girls
died of the plague 1665-66. Hugo then married Jeanne Wibau, a widow
1-22-1667 and they also had children.
Hugo Sr. b. 1666, d. 1732 at New Paltz; married at New Paltz 6-7-1690 Maria
Anna LeRoy, b. Quebec 5-7-1673, daughter of Simeon LeRoy and Claude
Deschalets. They had 15 children, Simon was the 3rd child, born 6-9-1695
at Kingston; married 4-22-1720 Marytjen Van Bommell daugahter of Peiter and
Deborah. He went to Dutchess County and is mentioned in the will of Peiter
Wanbomer. they had 10 children.
Zimeon (Simon) was their first, baptized at Kingston 2-12-1721; m. 1742 to
Catrina Van Benschoten, bp. 12-2-1722, daughter of Solomon Van Benschoten
and Elsje Schoonmaker. They lived in "Freertown" near Poughkeepsie.
Served in the 4th Regt. of the line.. Signed Articles of Association. Had
11 children, Elias was the second child.b. 10-30-1747, d. 12-29-1831; m.
4-14-1777 Mary Van Kleeck of Poughkeepsie, b. 9-13-1755, d. 6-7-1812,
buried in Lloyd Cemetery. Elias was Lt. in 4th Dutchess, laterin 4th
Ulster Regts. They had 10 children, Moses was the last. Born 8-10-1802,
bp. Rhinebeck Flats 8-14-1802; d. 11-7-1873; m. Jane DuBois b.1-20-1808,
daughter of Henry M. DuBois and Elizabeth Deyo. He wasa first-class
blacksmith and settled just east of New Paltz. At one time he lived in the
